Er gatto e er cane

Un Gatto soriano
diceva a un Barbone.
Nun porto rispetto
nemmanco ar padrone,
perché a l’occasione
je sgraffto la mano;
ma tu che lo lecchi
te becchi le botte.
Te mena, te sfotte,
te mette in catena
cor muso rinchiuso
e un cerchio cor bollo
sull’osso der collo.
Seconno la moda
te taja li ricci,
te spunta la coda . . .
Che belli capricci!
lo, guarda. so’ un Gatto,
so’ un ladro, lo dico.
Ma a me nun s’azzarda
de famme ste cose.
Er Cane rispose.
Ma io… je so’ amico!

The cat and the Dog

The cat said to the dog,
“Look at it this way.
you’ll never see me pay
any respect to the man
In fact, if I’m in the mood,
I scratch him on the hand.
But you, you fetch his slippers,
lick his boots and slobber.
What does it get you? A kick!
He chains you to a stick
and chokes you with a collar,
or keeps you in a kennel,
then crimps your ears and tags you,
bobs your tail and clips you,
because it’s the latest fad,
and, brother, you’ve been had!
Look at me. I’m a cat!
l’ve stolen again and again,
but the man’s never tried
to keep me muzzled or penned”
The dog replied,
“But I’m his friend.”

Opening the Pandora’s Box

Pandora’s Box

Ascent / Descent

When cultural and historical context is completely ignored, out comes Alex Gross’s artworks.

Absurd” was the first word that approached my mind.

Next came the feeling of curiosity which assisted me to temporarily suspend my judgment on Gross’s images and to make a genuine effort to accustom myself with these “alien visitors” and to welcome them as guests entering my mental system. They were greeted with a warm reception.

However, like a bad aftertaste lingering on the tongue, these images remained too long within the house of mind. My mind, no longer able to sustain its patience and to permit these “obnoxious guests” to roam around the house ruining its delicate decors of reason, finally decided to invoke the emotional demon of “rejection“. At the end, the painful irritation caused by the psychological indigestion was happily relieved with the removal of these stubbornly uncompromising artworks; the obtrusive works of Alex Gross.

72 Spirits of Solomon

Filed under: Art — Nkruhmann @ 12:17 am

“Bael” From Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire infernal

Demons disappeared with the arrival of the scientific age, where people adopted the new faith in the absolute, the absolute deity in the name of “objectivity”. With the introduction of psychology, people came to understand that demons are nothing but a pictorial representation of the ego, its cunning and deceptive nature describes the workings of our minds. The problem lies not within this mechanism of our mind, but its ability to deceive even itself; the boldness to justify oneself even when the world is indicating its wrongdoings.

Goetia
is the first book of the 17th century sorcery manual LEMEGETON CLAVICULA SALOMONIS (Lesser Key of Solomon), including a catalog of 72 demons, each accompanied with their insignia and descriptions of their power. Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire infernal is well-known for its illustrations of these 72 demons; each spirit is portrayed in great detail, characterizing their natures with amusing creativity. Gunsho is amazingly attempting such a grand task of re-interpreting these 72 spirits of Solomon with a new set of illustrations, planning to complete this project by the end of 2006 (via Art Dorks).

“Descent” Ade Rowbotham.

Per me si va ne la città dolente,
per me si va ne l’etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.

Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore:
fecemi la divina podestate,
la somma sapienza e ‘l primo amore.

Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate”.
- Divina comedia - Inferno, Canto 3.1-3.9. Dante Alighieri -

“Through Me Pass Into The Painful City,
Through Me Pass Into Eternal Grief,
Through Me Pass Among The Lost People.

Justice Moved My Master-Builder:
Heavenly Power First Fashioned Me
With Highest Wisdom And With Primal Love.

Before Me Nothing Was Created That
Was Not Eternal, And I Last Eternally.
All Hope Abandon, You Who Enter Here.”

“Octopus Underwear” (2005) Odinea Pamici.

“Fry Underwear (black)” (2005) Odinea Pamici.

Odinea Pamici must have had some sexual statements she wanted to make when working on her Lingerie series. I dare not go too deep into what these art pieces are implying. After all, it is not difficult to figure out how fishes and squids ties in with women’s lingerie.

Like these sea creatures, men did come from the sea…
And the fish market is not the only place that smells fishy…
Well…you know where I’m getting at…
